Project Overview

This large garden transformation in Douglas Gardens, Uddingston involved redesigning an outdated and poorly structured outdoor space into a timeless, high-end garden built for practicality, durability, and everyday enjoyment. The original garden lacked flow, with worn lawn areas, outdated pathways, and an inefficient layout that failed to maximise the full potential of the space.

The client wanted a complete redesign that would introduce clear walkways, dedicated patio areas, and a more cohesive layout while maintaining a traditional appearance that suited the property. To achieve this, we carried out a full excavation and installed over 170m² of Indian sandstone paving alongside Tobermore Retro blockwork, new steps, decorative edging, and over 100m² of fresh lawn.

Our Solution

The completed transformation has created a spacious and elegant garden with a classic, high-end finish throughout. The combination of Indian sandstone paving, Tobermore Retro borders, and the bespoke herringbone pathway design has introduced structure, character, and a natural flow across the entire outdoor space.

The newly installed lawn softens the hard landscaping and provides a practical family-friendly area, while the carefully planned layout improves movement and usability throughout the garden. The finished result is a timeless outdoor space that balances traditional styling with modern functionality and long-term durability.

Project Details

The project began with a full excavation of the existing garden, removing outdated paving, pathways, and uneven ground levels to prepare for a complete redesign. Due to the scale of the garden, careful planning was required to ensure each section flowed seamlessly into the next while maintaining a balanced and visually appealing layout. The groundwork stage allowed us to create the correct levels and strong foundations needed for a long-lasting installation.

Across the garden, we installed more than 170m² of Indian sandstone paving to create multiple patio and pathway areas. Tobermore Retro blocks were used to frame all paved sections, introducing a traditional and well-defined finish throughout the design. One of the standout features of the project was the bespoke herringbone-style pathway constructed using Tobermore Retro blocks, creating a striking visual feature that guides movement naturally through the garden. Curved edges and contrasting borders were incorporated throughout to soften the layout and enhance the overall flow of the space.

Additional improvements included the construction of new steps to improve access between levels and the preparation and installation of over 100m² of fresh lawn. Decorative aggregates were also used around key areas for neat edging and improved drainage. The finished garden now offers a practical and visually impressive outdoor environment that combines traditional materials with thoughtful design and expert craftsmanship.
